Making your own laundry soap is  light on your wallet, gentle on your clothes, and great for environment.  Below are two low sudsing soap recipes. You can add essential oils if you like a scented soap. Lavender and Lemongrass are our favorite.

Liquid Laundry Soap:

5 ounces (1/2 bag) Soap Flakes

1 cup borax

1 cup washing soda

4 gallons water

Heat a half gallon of water in a pot and dissolve soap flakes in it. Add borax and washing soda, stir until dissolved. Pour into a 5 gallon bucket. Heat remaining water and pour into 5 gallon bucket over soap mixture. Let soap sit for 24 hours and it will gel. Makes about 4 gallons.

Powdered Laundry Soap

Grind soap flakes in food processor. Mix all ingredients well in large bowl. Store in labeled air-tight container. Use 1 - 2 tablespoons per load, depending on size.

Ingredients: Organic safflower oil, water, organic coconut oil, and lemongrass essential oil.
