We finally have arrived at a baking soda, aluminum free and hypoallergenic formula that our friends and family love. It uses natural minerals of magnesium and non-micronized zinc that keeps the skin slightly alkaline to neutralize body odor, organic arrowroot and activated charcoal (can absorb 1,000x its own weight) to keep you dry, organic safflower, coconut oil, and cocoa butter to soothe and protect skin, in a base of locally gathered beeswax to keep it all together in a handy roll-on tube.
Ingredients: cocos nucifera (*coconut) oil, magnesium hydroxide, maranta arundinacea (*arrowroot) powder, cera alba (beeswax), carthamus tinctorius (*safflower) oil, theobroma cacao (*cocoa) seed butter, zinc oxide, activated charcoal, and diatomaceous earth. *organic ingredient.
“Aluminum in popular deodorants/antiperspirants is suspected to permeate the skin and cause breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease….”
Coffee is bad for you, drink coffee to be healthy. Coconut oil clogs your arteries, eat coconut oil every day for a healthy heart. It seems like every day a new study comes out that a product is horribly bad for us, only to find the next day it will make you healthier than you were yesterday. Experts used to think skin was a barrier to unwanted guests. You weren’t at risk of hurting your body unless something punctured the skin and created a wound. Today we know better. The skin is not necessarily a barrier, but more of a permeable layer through which chemicals pass directly into our bodies. Medications such as nicotine, fentanyl, contraceptives, nitroglycerin, and hormonal patches administers medication through the skin.
Does everything we put on our skin get absorbed into our bloodstream? Our body is way more complicated than that, so the answer is, it depends. It depends on the size of molecule. If you put a chicken bone under your arm it won’t be absorbed into your bloodstream anytime soon, but some experts say aluminum can quickly be absorbed into the skin and build up in your tissues over time. If aluminum is absorbed into your skin does aluminum cause Alzheimer’s or breast cancer?
Experts don’t agree, and we at DAYSPA don’t claim to have the answer. What we do know is we have been asked by our customers for several years to make a natural deodorant. We have tried different formulas. Our favorite has been the Lemongrass Liquid Crystal Deodorant. It is made with potassium alum, the same ingredient in homemade pickles that helps keep them crisp. Some of our customers felt we went over to the dark side because we had a product that sounded like aluminum (alum).
Why you shouldn’t use baking soda as a deodorant….
Baking soda, baking soda, just make a deodorant with baking soda was the recommendation. Unfortunately, baking soda is not great for those with sensitive skin, it can create a flaming red rash! How can that be? I have super sensitive skin and use Arm and Hammer and I don’t break out. Why is Arm and Hammer baking soda better than other baking soda? The answer is, marketing! The active ingredient in Arm and Hammer Antiperspirants & Deodorants is not baking soda. It actually has very little baking soda in it, but that’s another story. Our task - make a deodorant that doesn’t have aluminum or baking soda (or nuts, or soy, or gluten).
