Witch Hazel
is a plant native to North America and parts of Asia that has been used for centuries for its skin soothing properties. It has powerful antioxidant and astringent benefits and is known to help speed healing, prevent signs of aging, stop cellular damage, and eradicate bacteria that lives within the pores of the skin. The bark, twigs, and leaves of the witch hazel plant are used to extract active properties known as tannins and polyphenols. It’s the tannins in witch hazel extract that make it a natural astringent, as they help to remove excess oil from the skin.
Myrrh
The essential oil of myrrh is extracted from resin. Myrrh, in the scientific nomenclature system, is called Commiphora myrrha and is native to Egypt. The resin was frequently used in incense and perfumes in ancient Egypt, and the oil obtained from it was used for healing wounds in ancient Greece. The main components of this essential oil are alpha-pinene, cadinene, limonene, cuminaldehyde, eugenol, cresol, heerabolene, acetic acid, formic acid, and sesquiterpenes.
